A real discovery call
Summit Ridge Roofing · roof replacementSite visit + call with Marcus Webb, homeowner in Bakersfield. Two-story house, roughly 2,400 sq ft. The roof is 22 years old — original 3-tab shingles, curling at the edges, and he lost several in the last windstorm. Two active leaks: one over the master bedroom, one in the garage. An insurance adjuster has already been out; he has a claim number and a partial approval.
What he keeps coming back to: getting it done RIGHT before the winter rains ("I'm done patching it"), a real warranty in writing, and not getting nickel-and-dimed on the tear-off. We measured roughly 24 squares including the garage. He wants architectural shingles and asked about the "lifetime" ones. He's worried about his kids' rooms staying dry.
He also asked point-blank what's NOT included, and what happens if the decking under the old shingles turns out rotten — a neighbor's re-roof turned into a surprise bill halfway through, and he doesn't want that. We told him decking condition is confirmed at tear-off and any repair gets priced and approved by him before work continues. Gutters are staying — he replaced them two years ago — and he knows painting the fascia is his own painter's job.
Decision makers: him and his wife, Dana. Budget: insurance covers part; he's paying the deductible plus any upgrade out of pocket. Timeline: wants it on the schedule within three weeks. Every week it slips is another storm over two active leaks. Next step: send a written proposal with the shingle options and the warranty spelled out.
